This past weekend marked a special achievement for Metroball youth and Metroball as an Organization. For the first time in our 15 Year history, we were able to have 6 Metroball Teams compete in a tournament in several divisions (12u, 14u, 15u, 16u, 17u Boys, and 17u Girls). All teams looked sharp and competed well the whole weekend. 3 teams made the championship game and one made it to the semi-finals in their respective divisions. We walked away with two championships.
The highlight of the weekend was the 12u team that despite being under sized, went 3-1 and beat some very tough teams on the way to their first championship as a team. Led by dynamic 11 year old guards Allen Concepcion and Milton (Mike) Milling, this team rallied to a 20 point win in the championship game!!
The other big winner was the 9th Grade team with new coaches Derek Norman & Kernis De Faison, this newly formed team went undefeated the whole weekend. Look for this team to do big things in the future.
The other newly formed teams led by Coach Angela Richmond (10th Grade boys & 11th Grade Girls), Coach Joy Yancey & Coach Rob Brown Jr (8th Grade) competed but came up short in pool play.
The Metroball DC 11th Grade team dominated all weekend but underestimated their opponents and fell short in the championship game by 2 points. It was a good learning experience.
All in all, Metroball AAU as an organization had a great weekend!!
